About Clear Water Technology
What is Clear Water Technology?
Clear Water Technology is uGlow’s approach to tanning without the traditional coloured guide. Instead of applying a brown-tinted product to the skin, uGlow applies clear, allowing your tan to develop gradually without the mess normally associated with fake tan.
The technology was developed to tackle some of the things people dislike most about tanning — colour transfer onto clothing and bedding, the traditional fake-tan smell, messy application and an unnatural-looking result.
uGlow’s clear tanning formulations use DHA, the tanning ingredient that reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of the skin to gradually develop colour. The difference is that uGlow doesn’t need a cosmetic colour guide to show an instant brown result while the DHA develops.
The result is a natural-looking tan that develops on your skin rather than being painted onto it first.
Clear Water Technology is used across uGlow’s professional spray tanning system and its self-application tanning products.
What is clear fake tan?
Clear fake tan is a self-tanning product that applies to the skin without a brown or tinted colour guide. It looks clear when you apply it, and the tanning colour develops gradually on your skin afterwards.
Traditional fake tans often contain a temporary cosmetic colour guide, which gives the skin an immediate brown appearance and helps you see where you’ve applied the product. That colour guide then washes off when you shower.
With a clear tan such as uGlow, there is no coloured guide to wash away. The DHA develops the tanning result directly on the skin, helping to avoid the mess and colour transfer onto clothing and bedding associated with traditional tinted products.
Clear tanning products can come in different formats. uGlow uses Clear Water Technology across both self-application products and its professional spray tanning system.
How does clear fake tan work if you can’t see it on the skin?
Clear fake tan doesn’t need to look brown when it is applied in order to create a tan. The tanning process happens after application.
uGlow contains DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a self-tanning ingredient that reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin. This reaction gradually creates the tanned appearance you see developing over the following hours.
Traditional fake tans often add a separate brown cosmetic colour guide so you can immediately see where the product has been applied. That instant brown colour isn’t the tan itself — it is a temporary guide that is usually washed away later.
uGlow’s Clear Water Technology removes the need for that coloured guide. Instead, uGlow combines its clear tanning formulations with application guidance and tools designed to help achieve even, controlled coverage.
For self-application, the fine-mist atomiser distributes the tanning water across the skin. The mitt is then used to blend and evenly distribute the product, while the brush allows greater precision on areas such as the hands and face. Following uGlow’s application technique helps ensure that areas aren’t missed simply because there is no visible colour guide.
For a professional uGlow spray tan, precision spraying equipment and trained application technique allow the clear tanning solution to be distributed evenly and consistently across the body.
So although you don’t see an instant brown colour during application, the formulation, application method and tools work together to achieve an even tan as the colour develops.
What’s the difference between clear fake tan and traditional fake tan?
The main difference is the colour guide.
Traditional fake tan often contains a temporary brown cosmetic colour guide. This gives the skin an immediate tanned appearance and allows you to see where the product has been applied. The guide isn’t the developing tan itself — it sits on the skin before being washed away.
Clear fake tan applies without that temporary brown colour. With uGlow’s Clear Water Technology, the DHA develops the tanning result directly on the skin while the product itself applies clear.
Removing the colour guide also changes the experience of wearing fake tan while it develops. There is no brown guide to transfer onto clothing or bedding, and you don’t need to spend the development period covered in temporary cosmetic colour before showering.
Because you can’t rely on a visible guide during application, even application becomes particularly important. uGlow has approached this as a complete system, combining its clear formulations with application guidance and tools designed to distribute the product evenly and precisely.
The end goal is still the same — a natural-looking tan — but without many of the inconveniences associated with wearing a traditional colour-guide tan while it develops.
What makes uGlow different from other clear tanning waters?
uGlow isn’t simply a traditional fake tan with the brown colour removed. Clear Water Technology was developed as a complete approach to tanning, from the formulation through to the way the product is applied, worn and maintained.
The clear formulations use high-quality DHA, hyaluronic acid, carefully selected ingredients and odour-neutralising technology, while remaining fragrance-free. The aim is to address several of the things people commonly dislike about tanning: visible transfer, fake-tan odour, messy application and unnatural-looking colour.
Skincare is also an important part of the uGlow approach. Rather than thinking of fake tan simply as something that deposits colour onto the skin, uGlow has been developed with consideration for how the skin feels and is maintained while you tan. Hyaluronic acid supports hydration, while the fragrance-free formulation and carefully selected ingredients form part of uGlow’s skin-conscious approach.
This brings tanning and skincare closer together — creating a tanning routine that can sit naturally alongside the way you already look after your skin.
But the formulation is only part of the system.
For self-application, uGlow combines its tanning water with a fine-mist atomiser, mitt and precision brush, helping you distribute and blend a product that you can’t see as a brown guide on the skin. The tanning water can also be sprayed directly onto the brush for controlled application and top-ups on areas such as the face and hands.
The same Clear Water Technology extends into professional spray tanning, where trained application techniques and precision spraying equipment are used to achieve controlled, even coverage.
uGlow is also designed to be buildable and maintainable. Rather than following a constant cycle of applying a tan, washing away a colour guide, removing the old tan and starting again, you can maintain or build your glow as part of your normal skincare and tanning routine.
That’s what makes Clear Water Technology more than simply a clear tanning product — the formulation, skincare approach, application system and way you maintain your tan have all been designed to work together.
Why did uGlow create Clear Water Technology?
Clear Water Technology was created because we believed tanning could be better.
For years, many of the inconveniences associated with fake tan had simply become accepted as part of the process — brown colour guides, stained clothing and bedding, the traditional fake-tan smell, waiting around while a tan develops and repeatedly scrubbing it away before starting again.
uGlow questioned why those things needed to be part of tanning at all.
The result was Clear Water Technology: an approach that combines clear tanning formulations with carefully considered ingredients, precision application and a buildable way of maintaining your colour.
Removing the traditional colour guide was only the beginning. uGlow looked at the formulation, the DHA, skin hydration, odour, application equipment, self-application tools and professional technique as parts of one connected tanning system.
The aim was to make tanning feel less like a process you have to endure and more like something that can fit naturally into everyday life and alongside your skincare routine.
Whether you choose a professional uGlow spray tan, use uGlow tanning water at home or combine the two, the philosophy is the same:
A natural-looking glow. Tailored to you. Designed around real life.
That’s uGlow Intelligent Tanning.
Application & Use
Will clear fake tan go streaky because I can’t see where I’ve applied it?
Not when it is applied correctly. A colour guide can help you see where a traditional fake tan has been placed, but a brown guide isn’t what makes a tan develop evenly.
With clear tanning products, application technique and even product distribution are particularly important. uGlow has designed its application system around this.
For self-application, the fine-mist atomiser distributes the tanning water across the skin, the mitt helps blend and evenly distribute it over larger areas, and the brush gives greater precision on areas such as the hands and face. Following uGlow’s application guidance helps you achieve consistent coverage even though you can’t see a temporary brown guide.
For a professional uGlow spray tan, precision spraying equipment combined with a trained application technique distributes the clear solution evenly and consistently across the body.
As the DHA develops, the tanning colour then appears gradually on the skin.
So clear doesn’t mean guesswork — the key is using the right application method and following the guidance rather than relying on a temporary brown colour to show where you’ve been.
How do I know where I’ve applied a clear tanning water?
Because clear tanning water doesn’t contain a brown colour guide, you won’t see an instant colour change showing exactly where you’ve applied it. Instead, even coverage comes from using a consistent application method.
With uGlow, the fine-mist atomiser helps distribute the tanning water across the skin. The mitt then helps blend and evenly distribute the product over larger areas, while the brush gives greater control and precision on areas such as the hands and face.
We recommend working methodically across the body, one area at a time, following uGlow’s application guidance. This helps you keep track of where you’ve applied the product without needing a temporary brown guide.
The application system has been designed specifically around using a clear formulation, so you don’t need to see brown colour on your skin to achieve controlled, even coverage.
Is clear fake tan harder to apply than traditional fake tan?
It doesn’t have to be. Clear fake tan is applied differently because you don’t have a brown colour guide showing where the product has been placed, so the application method becomes more important.
uGlow has been developed as more than just a clear tanning formulation. The application guidance and tools are designed to work with the Clear Water Technology to help achieve controlled, even coverage.
For self-application, uGlow’s fine-mist atomiser distributes the tanning water across the skin, the mitt helps blend and evenly distribute it over larger areas, and the brush provides greater precision on areas such as the hands and face.
The key is to work methodically, one area at a time, following the recommended application technique rather than relying on a temporary brown guide to tell you where you’ve been.
Once you’ve learned the technique, applying a clear tan can become a simple, clean part of your routine — without the mess of a traditional colour guide.
Can I use uGlow on my face and hands?
Yes. uGlow can be used on the face and hands, and the uGlow brush allows you to apply the tanning water with greater control and precision on these areas.
For particularly precise application, you can spray the uGlow tanning water directly onto the brush and then use the brush to blend the product onto the skin. This gives you greater control over how much product you’re applying and exactly where you’re applying it.
This technique is particularly useful around the hands, fingers and face, where a lighter and more controlled application can help create a natural-looking result.
It’s also ideal for maintaining a professional uGlow spray tan. As the face and hands are washed more frequently than other areas of the body, you can use the tanning water and brush to top up these areas between professional spray tans without needing to re-tan your whole body.
Because uGlow is clear and buildable, you can start with a light application, allow the colour to develop and add more if you’d like greater intensity.
The tanning water, atomiser and brush give you the flexibility to maintain and precisely control your glow exactly where you need it.
How should I prepare my skin before applying uGlow?
For the best and most even result, good skin preparation matters whether you’re applying uGlow yourself or having a professional uGlow spray tan.
Exfoliate before tanning to remove loose, dry skin and create a smoother surface for application. Pay particular attention to naturally drier areas such as the elbows, knees, ankles and feet.
Skin should be clean and dry before tanning, without products sitting on the surface that could interfere with an even application.
Moisturising regularly between applications also helps keep the skin hydrated and supports the way your tan wears and fades over time.
Because uGlow is designed as a buildable lifestyle tan, preparation isn’t about repeatedly scrubbing every trace of your previous tan away and starting again. It’s about keeping your skin in good condition so you can maintain and build your glow naturally as part of your routine.
For a professional uGlow spray tan, your uGlow Spray Tan Artist will also give you preparation and aftercare guidance to help you get the best result from your treatment.
Do I need to exfoliate my old tan off before reapplying uGlow?
No. You don’t need to wait until every trace of your existing uGlow tan has disappeared before applying it again.
uGlow is designed to be buildable and maintainable, so you can reapply it as part of your normal tanning and skincare routine to maintain your existing glow or increase the intensity.
Regular gentle exfoliation is still an important part of looking after your skin. It helps remove loose, dry skin and keeps the skin’s surface smooth, particularly around areas such as the elbows, knees, ankles and feet.
But that is different from aggressively scrubbing your skin to remove every trace of tan before you’re allowed to start again.
Keeping your skin hydrated, smooth and well cared for gives you a good base for maintaining your uGlow tan. You can then apply more tanning water when you feel your glow needs refreshing or when you’d like to build greater intensity.
With uGlow, the routine is about maintaining your skin and your glow — not repeatedly stripping everything back to zero and starting again.
Your Tan, Developing & Maintenance
How quickly does uGlow dry?
uGlow is designed to be quick-drying, so you don’t need to spend a long time waiting around before getting dressed.
After application, uGlow will usually dry within a few minutes. Once the skin feels dry, you can get dressed and allow your tan to continue developing while you carry on with your day.
Because uGlow uses Clear Water Technology with no coloured cosmetic guide, you also don’t have the layer of temporary brown colour sitting on the skin that is traditionally associated with visible transfer onto clothing or bedding.
Drying time can vary slightly depending on how much product is applied, the application method and your environment, so we recommend allowing the skin to feel dry before dressing.
Can I get dressed after applying uGlow?
Yes. uGlow is designed so you can get dressed shortly after application rather than waiting around while your tan develops.
After applying uGlow, allow the product to dry on the skin, which usually takes just a few minutes. Once your skin feels dry, you can get dressed and allow the tanning colour to continue developing.
Because uGlow’s Clear Water Technology has no coloured cosmetic guide, there isn’t a layer of temporary brown colour sitting on your skin while the tan develops. This helps minimise the visible transfer onto clothing associated with traditional colour-guide fake tans.
For best results, follow the application guidance for your specific uGlow product and allow the skin to feel dry before dressing.
How long does uGlow self-tan take to develop, and do I need to wash it off?
uGlow self-tan develops gradually on your skin after application, but unlike many traditional tanning routines, you don’t need to wash it off after a set number of hours.
You can apply uGlow in the morning, allow it to dry within a few minutes, get dressed and carry on with your day while your tan develops.
The DHA reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin to create the tanning colour. This reaction doesn’t continue making your skin darker indefinitely. The tanning process naturally reaches its limit, so once uGlow has finished developing, it simply stops developing further.
That means there is no compulsory ‘rinse-off’ point with uGlow self-tan. You can shower normally when you want to rather than timing your day around having to wash off a colour guide.
Because uGlow contains no coloured cosmetic guide, there’s also no temporary brown layer that needs to be rinsed away to reveal the finished tan underneath.
If you’d like a deeper result, uGlow can be applied again to build the colour gradually, giving you the tailored intensity that suits your individual skin tone.
Apply it, let it develop, and shower as normal — there’s no tan-removal deadline to worry about.
How long does a uGlow tan last?
uGlow is designed to be maintained as part of your regular skincare and tanning routine, rather than something you have to apply, wait for, completely remove and then start again.
Once developed, your uGlow tan gradually fades as the outermost layer of your skin naturally renews. How quickly that happens will vary depending on your individual skin, skincare routine and lifestyle, which is why we don’t give everyone an arbitrary number of days that their tan should last.
Because uGlow is clear and buildable, you can simply maintain your glow with further applications as and when your skin needs them. You don’t have to wait until your existing tan has completely disappeared before applying uGlow again.
This also allows you to control your tailored intensity. You might maintain a subtle everyday glow or gradually build a deeper tan when you want more colour.
Keeping your skin hydrated and following uGlow’s preparation and application guidance will help your tan look smooth and fade evenly between applications.
Think of uGlow as a lifestyle tanning product rather than a tan with an expiry date — you can maintain your glow as part of your normal routine.
Can I build a darker tan with uGlow?
Yes. uGlow is designed to be buildable, allowing you to control the intensity of your tan rather than committing to one predetermined shade.
Your first application can create a natural-looking glow that works with your individual skin tone. If you’d like a deeper result, you can layer further applications to gradually build the intensity.
We call this tailored intensity.
Rather than using a heavily coloured cosmetic guide to give everyone an immediate predetermined-looking shade, uGlow allows you to see how the tanning colour develops on your own skin and decide how much further you’d like to build it.
You can use this approach to create a subtle everyday glow, maintain your existing colour, or build a deeper tan when you want more intensity.
Because uGlow is designed as a lifestyle tanning product, there isn’t a cycle where you must necessarily wait for your tan to completely disappear before starting again. You can maintain and adjust your glow as part of your normal routine.
Can I shower while my uGlow tan is developing?
For the best result, we recommend allowing uGlow around six hours to develop before showering.
However, six hours is not a rinse-off time — you don’t need to wash uGlow off once those six hours have passed.
After application, the DHA reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin and the tanning colour gradually develops. Allowing around six hours before showering gives this process time to take place without water interrupting the early stages of development.
After that, you can simply shower whenever it fits naturally into your routine. There is no countdown telling you that uGlow must be removed at a particular time.
Because uGlow uses Clear Water Technology with no coloured cosmetic guide, there’s no temporary brown layer that needs to be rinsed away to reveal your tan underneath.
The tanning reaction also doesn’t continue making your skin darker indefinitely. It naturally reaches its limit as the DHA reaction progresses.
So if you apply uGlow in the morning, you can let it develop throughout the day and shower later. If you apply it in the evening, you don’t need to set an alarm or rush to wash it off six hours later — just shower normally when you next want to.
Think of six hours as development guidance, not a wash-off deadline.
Can I sleep in uGlow?
Yes. You can apply uGlow in the evening and sleep while your tan develops.
Because uGlow uses Clear Water Technology with no coloured cosmetic guide, there isn’t a temporary layer of brown colour sitting on your skin while you sleep. This helps avoid the visible transfer onto bedding commonly associated with traditional tinted fake tans.
Apply uGlow using the recommended application method and allow your skin to dry, which usually takes just a few minutes, before getting into bed.
Your tan can then continue developing naturally overnight. As we recommend allowing around six hours for optimum development, an overnight application can fit particularly easily into your normal routine.
And there’s no need to jump straight into the shower when you wake up. Six hours is development guidance, not a wash-off deadline. You can simply shower when it suits your normal routine.
Can I exercise or go to the gym while uGlow is developing?
For the best result, we recommend avoiding heavy exercise, excessive sweating or getting the skin very wet during the first six hours after applying uGlow.
This gives the DHA time to react with the amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin and allows the tanning colour to develop without excessive moisture interfering with the early development period.
After that initial development time, you can return to your normal routine, including exercising, showering and everyday activities.
And because uGlow doesn’t contain a coloured cosmetic guide, you don’t have the temporary brown layer associated with traditional fake tan that can visibly transfer onto clothing while you’re wearing it.
If exercise is part of your daily routine, it’s simply worth thinking about when you apply uGlow. You might choose to apply it after your workout or at a time when you know you’ll have around six hours before your next heavy exercise session.
uGlow is designed to fit around your lifestyle — not require you to put your life on hold while your tan develops.
Ingredients, Safety & Skincare
Does uGlow fake tan smell?
uGlow was developed to minimise the traditional fake-tan smell that many people associate with self-tanning products.
That familiar odour can develop as DHA reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of the skin. The quality of the DHA and the overall formulation can therefore play an important part in the tanning experience.
uGlow uses high-quality DHA alongside carefully selected ingredients and odour-neutralising technology to help minimise the characteristic smell associated with developing fake tan.
Rather than covering the smell with heavy fragrance, uGlow tanning formulations are fragrance-free. This was a deliberate formulation choice, particularly for people who don’t want a strongly perfumed tanning product on their skin.
The result is a clear tan designed to develop with minimal fake-tan odour, making it easier to apply, get dressed and carry on with your day without that unmistakable traditional fake-tan smell.
We describe uGlow as minimal odour rather than claiming that DHA can never produce any detectable smell, because individual skin chemistry and the DHA reaction can vary from person to person.
Why does traditional fake tan have that distinctive smell?
The familiar ‘fake tan smell’ is mainly caused by the reaction between DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin as the tanning colour develops.
Because this reaction happens on the skin, the strength of the odour can vary from person to person. DHA quality, formulation and the other ingredients used in a tanning product can also influence the overall tanning experience.
Some tanning products use fragrance to help mask the characteristic smell. uGlow takes a different approach. Its formulations use high-quality DHA, carefully selected ingredients and odour-neutralising technology to help minimise the odour rather than covering it with heavy fragrance.
uGlow tanning formulations are fragrance-free, so the aim is a much cleaner tanning experience while the colour develops.
Is uGlow suitable for sensitive skin?
uGlow has been formulated with skin comfort and ingredient quality as an important part of the tanning experience, rather than treating skincare as an afterthought.
The clear tanning formulations are fragrance-free and contain hyaluronic acid to support skin hydration. uGlow is also formulated without aloe vera or citric acid, ingredients that can be problematic for some sensitive skin types.
The formulation has also been independently assessed by Yuka, receiving a score of 91/100 and an ‘Excellent’ rating. This provides an independent assessment of the ingredients used in the formulation rather than relying solely on uGlow’s own claims.
People with sensitive or reactive skin — including those who may experience conditions such as eczema or dermatitis — can be particularly careful about the products they apply to their skin. Individual sensitivities vary, so having eczema, dermatitis or another skin condition doesn’t automatically mean that any cosmetic product will be suitable for you.
For that reason, if you have particularly sensitive or reactive skin, we recommend patch testing uGlow before your first full application and following any advice you’ve been given by your healthcare professional.
uGlow is also vegan and cruelty-free, with its formulation designed to combine tanning performance with a skin-conscious approach.
Does uGlow contain fragrance?
No. uGlow’s tanning formulations are fragrance-free.
Rather than adding perfume to cover the characteristic smell associated with self-tanning, uGlow uses high-quality DHA, carefully selected ingredients and odour-neutralising technology to help minimise fake-tan odour as the colour develops.
Choosing not to add fragrance is also part of uGlow’s skin-conscious approach to formulation, particularly for customers who prefer to avoid heavily fragranced products or have more sensitive skin.
It also means uGlow doesn’t compete with your own fragrance. Once you’ve applied your tan, you can continue to wear your usual perfume or aftershave rather than having it mixed with a fragrance added to the tanning product.
The formulations also contain hyaluronic acid to support hydration and have been independently assessed by Yuka, receiving 91/100 and an ‘Excellent’ rating.
So when we say uGlow is designed to have minimal fake-tan odour, that isn’t because we’ve simply covered the smell with perfume — the formulation has been developed to address the tanning experience itself while leaving you free to choose your own fragrance.
Does uGlow contain hyaluronic acid, and what does it do?
Yes. uGlow tanning formulations contain hyaluronic acid as part of their skin-conscious approach to tanning.
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, meaning it helps attract and retain moisture in the skin. Including it in uGlow helps support hydration while your tanning colour develops, rather than treating tanning and skincare as completely separate things.
Keeping the skin well hydrated is also important to the appearance of a tan. Dry areas can develop and fade differently, so supporting skin hydration can help the finished tan look smoother and fade more evenly.
This is part of the thinking behind uGlow’s formulation: a great tan shouldn’t come at the expense of how your skin feels.
uGlow for Men also contains a higher level of hyaluronic acid, developed with men’s skin in mind.
Results & Skin Tones
Does uGlow transfer onto clothes or bedding?
uGlow was developed specifically to minimise the mess and transfer associated with traditional colour-guide tanning products.
Traditional fake tans often contain a temporary brown cosmetic colour guide. While the tan is developing, that guide can rub onto clothing, underwear and bedding, leaving visible brown marks before it is washed away.
uGlow’s Clear Water Technology contains no coloured guide, so there is no temporary brown cosmetic colour sitting on the surface of the skin to transfer onto fabrics.
Once applied using the recommended uGlow application method, uGlow usually dries within a few minutes. Once dry, you can get dressed and continue with your day without the visible colour transfer associated with a traditional tinted tan.
For best results, we recommend allowing the product to dry before dressing and following the application guidance for the specific uGlow product you’re using.
Can I wear white clothes after applying uGlow?
Yes. uGlow’s Clear Water Technology was designed to minimise the visible colour transfer associated with traditional fake tan.
Traditional tanning products often contain a brown cosmetic colour guide that can rub onto clothing while the tan develops. Because uGlow applies clear and contains no coloured guide, there isn’t a layer of temporary brown colour sitting on the skin to mark white clothing.
After applying uGlow, allow the product to dry — usually within a few minutes — before getting dressed. Your tan can then continue to develop while you carry on with your day.
As with any skincare or tanning product, we recommend allowing it to dry before clothing comes into contact with the skin.
Will uGlow make me look orange?
uGlow is designed to create a natural-looking tan that works with your individual skin tone, rather than covering the skin with an instant brown or orange cosmetic colour guide.
uGlow uses high-quality DHA and carefully developed clear formulations. The DHA reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of your own skin, which means the developed tanning result is influenced by your individual skin chemistry and tone.
One of the benefits of uGlow’s Clear Water Technology is what we call tailored intensity. Rather than relying on a heavily coloured guide to determine how dark you look during application, uGlow can be gradually layered to build the depth of tan that suits you.
You can start with a lighter glow and, if you want more intensity, build the colour through further applications. This gives you greater control over the finished result rather than having to commit immediately to a predetermined-looking shade.
Preparation, application and development will still influence the final result, so following uGlow’s recommended guidance is important.
The aim isn’t to give everyone the same colour — it’s to create a natural-looking glow with an intensity that can be tailored to you.
Is uGlow suitable for different skin tones?
Yes. uGlow is designed to work with your individual skin tone rather than covering the skin with a predetermined cosmetic colour.
Because uGlow uses Clear Water Technology with no brown colour guide, the colour you see isn’t coming from a temporary pigment painted onto the surface of your skin. Instead, DHA reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of your own skin to gradually create the tanning result.
This means the finished result is influenced by your individual skin chemistry and natural skin tone, rather than everyone being given exactly the same artificial-looking shade.
uGlow is also buildable, giving you control over how much tanning intensity you want. You can begin with a lighter application, see how the colour develops on your skin and then maintain or build your glow with further applications.
This is what uGlow means by tailored intensity — the aim isn’t to make everybody the same colour. It’s to allow you to create and maintain a natural-looking level of glow that works for you.
For professional tanning, a trained uGlow Spray Tan Artist can also tailor the treatment and application to the individual client.
Professional & At-Home
What is the difference between a professional uGlow spray tan and uGlow self-tan?
Both use uGlow’s Clear Water Technology, but the application experience is different.
A professional uGlow spray tan is applied by a trained uGlow Spray Tan Artist using precision spraying equipment. The artist controls the application across the body, helping achieve consistent, even coverage without relying on a coloured cosmetic guide.
uGlow self-tan brings the same clear-tanning philosophy into your at-home routine. The fine-mist atomiser distributes the tanning water, the mitt helps blend and evenly distribute it across larger areas, and the brush allows for greater precision on areas such as the face and hands.
The two are also designed to work together rather than compete with each other.
Together, they create a continuous uGlow tanning routine — professional application when you want it, with simple at-home maintenance in between.
You might choose a professional spray tan when you want the experience and precision of a trained artist, then use uGlow tanning water at home to maintain your glow between appointments, particularly on areas such as the face and hands that are washed more frequently.
Or you may simply prefer to use uGlow self-tan as part of your regular skincare and tanning routine.
Whichever route you choose, the principle behind uGlow remains the same: clear application, controlled coverage, buildable colour and a natural-looking glow that can be maintained around your lifestyle.
Lifestyle & Everyday Use
Is uGlow just for special occasions, or can I use it regularly?
uGlow is designed to fit into your everyday routine, not just be something you reach for before a holiday, wedding or night out.
Traditional fake tanning can sometimes feel like an event in itself — prepare the skin, apply the tan, wear a colour guide for several hours, rinse it off and eventually remove the tan before starting the process again.
uGlow’s approach is different.
Because it applies clear, dries within a few minutes and doesn’t have a coloured cosmetic guide that needs to be washed away at a particular time, you can incorporate uGlow into your normal skincare and lifestyle routine.
The tan is also buildable and maintainable. You can maintain a subtle everyday glow, top up areas such as your face and hands, or gradually build greater intensity when you want it.
You can use uGlow self-tan as your regular tanning routine, have professional uGlow spray tans and maintain them at home, or move between the two depending on what suits your lifestyle.
You don’t have to wait for an occasion to have a tan — uGlow is designed to make maintaining your glow part of everyday life.
Find a Spray Tan Artist
How do I find a professional uGlow Spray Tan Artist?
uGlow professional spray tans are carried out by trained uGlow Spray Tan Artists using uGlow’s Clear Water Technology, professional solutions and precision spraying equipment.
If you’d prefer your tan to be professionally applied, you can use the Find a Spray Tan Artist service on the uGlow website to find a uGlow professional in your area.
A trained artist can provide a full-body application, talk to you about the result you’d like to achieve and give you preparation and aftercare guidance for your treatment.
Afterwards, you can use uGlow tanning water at home to maintain your professional result between appointments, including precision top-ups to areas such as the face and hands using the uGlow brush.
This means choosing professional tanning doesn’t mean giving up control of your tan between appointments. Your professional treatment and your at-home uGlow routine can work together as one continuous tanning experience.
